**UPDATE**

On September 13, ACIJ and other organizations joined a lawsuit challenging Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen to stop the purge of more than 3,200 voters based on outdated noncitizen IDs. Following our lawsuit, the Secretary of State ordered Boards of Registrars to inform individuals on the Purge List of their re-registration options by October 21.

On September 27, the U.S. Department of Justice also filed a lawsuit against the Secretary of State regarding the purge program, revealing that at least 717 individuals on the list are U.S. citizens, amounting to 22% of the total 3,251 listed. Additionally, there are 

This month, our canvassing efforts took us to Montgomery, where we knocked on nearly 400 doors. We also set up tables to register voters and share information in Albertville, Oneonta, and Birmingham, reaching over 1,000 people!

We have many volunteering opportunities available, including phone banking, canvassing, and tabling.

At our recent workers' rights workshops in Montgomery, Hoover, and Irondale, which were attended by 35 workers, we educated them about their rights and offered support to those who have experienced workplace abuses, including wage theft and more.

During the months of September and October, we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring our culture and the diversity of Latino communities represented in our state. As part of this celebration, ACIJ participated in “México en el Corazón” in Albertville, AL showcasing Mexican culture through vibrant music and dance. We also attended the 3rd Annual VIVA Festival in Cleveland, AL, and the 22nd FIESTA event in Birmingham, where families enjoyed a lively atmosphere celebrating Latin American traditions.
